Finances seem to be a common area of concern for people whom I coach and motivate. How can I make more money? Why?  The real question is will money make us happier? Our ego’s are genetically programmed to always want more. The topic is best understood by Bob Proctor, author of You Were Born Rich, who explains; “If you have a money problem, money won’t solve it.”  We provide service to earn money and it has two purposes. First, it’s a tool that makes us more comfortable. The more money you have, the more creative you can become. Secondly, money extends the service beyond your own presence, with the objective to serve as many people as we can. The more we enrich the lives of others, the more our own lives will be enriched.

 

So, what will solve this money problem? That can only be answered by each person. A life coach can help you find the answers within you and what limiting beliefs, attitudes and conditions are holding you back. When we look at other successful people who do not have this problem, there are a few common areas that surface. They enjoy their work, have a different attitude about money and their results show.  They usually have multiple streams of income as well. In other words, they earn money not just from one job but on a continued basis, in increasing quantities from multiple sources. Owning your own business, Investing, Real Estate or any other area in which you are don’t have to trade your time for money. Life is meant to be experienced and fulfilled, not to be constantly worrying and working.

 

The biggest problem is not that people lack great and amazing ideas to pursue but for some reason, it's taking action. They know they are capable of doing it, know how to obtain the knowledge to make it happen and that the results would be worth it. So why can’t they make the change? Because we resist activities that we don’t feel like doing, we resist doing activities that we perceived to be linked to pain and we resist, avoid and fear change. We then avoid and justify the change in our minds.  

 

As Bob Davies, author of the 1.2% Factor and Coaching For High Performance teaches, the key is to start with small goals. You are then setting yourself up for success, as every time you achieve another small victory, you are training your subconscious mind that you can do it. The common approach has always been to start with big goals and if you don’t hit them, at least you tried. The problem is people take on huge new challenges, fail and then this re-confirms their current belief that they couldn’t do it. The small voice inside you continues to focus on the “what if” negative side, instead of the infinite possibilities all around us perception. Once we realize the potentials around us, we are never held back again.

 

Having a coach allows you to work through your challenges and goals backwards. One of the keys is to start with where you want to be specifically and move backwards, breaking it down into smaller monthly, weekly and even daily goals.  Then taking action and having someone to measure, evaluate and hold you accountable which will keep you on track. Visualization and autosuggestion are tools that will help develop new beliefs and over time, your attitude towards money will change and so will your results and bank account!

Text Messaging, Black Berry Messaging, Video Conferencing, Social Media and Smart Phones are the latest and greatest ways of communicating and have come a long way from the days of mail or even telegrams. However, the information or should I say, real truths being communicated hasn’t changed. I recently went back and read two classic books written in the 1950’s. The Magic of Believing and TNT, The Power Within You both written by Claude Bristol.

 

The principles written about are still the same “secrets” explained by authors today in books and seminars. Our human mind works in certain ways and since then, time has only added more scientific research and studies to back them up. It has and will always come down to  “The hidden power of your inner mind, released under purposeful control and directed to serve you in the meeting of any experience, the removal of any obstacle and the overcoming of any condition, economic , physical, mental or spiritual.” Combine this with the laws of the universe, which have been known and used for thousands of years and the practises that go along with this.

 

As much as I promote being a positive person, if someone has experienced nothing but failure in life, expects failure and whose mind has been programmed for failure – no amount of positive thinking will help. They can be given the best opportunity and they will find a way to fail. In moving forward, they must first analyse and reflect where these beliefs came from and essentially reprogram their self image.  What do you believe about yourself and why? Where are you going? This may sound so simple and common sense but many have trouble going after what they really want. There is science behind why this happens as explained in Quantum Physics. We base decisions on past experiences and the feelings we associate with these. So, if it’s a bad experience, we may associate pain, embarrassment, hurt to it and will not do this again. Neurons in the brain that wire together, fire together. In other words, the more you focus on successful feelings, the more it will keep happening. The same can be true of always feeling like a failure. This is how you can literally make yourself depressed or even sick by your thoughts. In extreme cases, your cells will actually duplicate some of these negative patterns and in doing so, will have less receptors to attract vitamins and nutrients needed. There is no one answer or solution to this. It’s a process and the length depends on each person.  This is where I find fulfillment in Life Coaching. It makes me happy, making a real difference in people’s lives - that moment when they experience it for themselves.  Helping them to recognize their true strengths, eliminating roadblocks and re-programming them for success in wherever direction they would like to go.    

Motivation and life-coaching in Winnipeg mean coming alive. Our city has just as much potential as Vancouver, Toronto or even New York. The difference? You could argue the support and structure is not the same here, but one thing has now levelled the playing field. The Internet. A small business or any idea can now get exposure online and compete not just against the guy next door, but worldwide. You don’t have to spend millions on television, radio and print advertising. People want to do business with people they know, like and trust and Winnipeg has lots of them. Things are changing faster than ever and we don’t have to be the last to jump on board.

 

I’m not saying I have all the answers and I certainly don’t have the solutions, but we have amazing people here who have not developed their full potential who do have the answers. I was born and raised in Winnipeg. Travelling and meeting people across Canada and around the world has taught me to realize one thing; There is no difference in capabilities except for our attitudes. There is nothing else that is "out there" that we need or don't have. Winnipeggers deserve it just as much as anyone else. We must conquer the day to day distractions we all face in order to keep focused to make our dreams become a reality. To battle the little voice inside of our heads that says we can’t do it.  Coaching and motivating is my way of helping others see that it is possible by changing your old beliefs and paradigms and creating new ones moving forward.    

 

Now Winnipeg has produced motivated, driven people who have attained success in a variety of fields including sports, the arts, medicine, music, and business. Some have stayed and some moved away but there still seems to be an underlining feeling of us not being on the same playing field as other big cities. Perhaps it started with the strike from years ago in 1919, perhaps it continued with losing our NHL hockey team, and grew with jokes about the cold weather and mosquitoes. We started to believe it and this attitude is holding us back from growing both individually and together as a city. Winnipeg is an amazing place to live, full of kind, optomistic, creative people. It will always be my home and I’m committed to helping people find themselves one person at a time.

Materials have been written on the personal growth subject for over 100 years which record principles and applications that are still relevant today.  In his 1910 written book, The Science of Getting Rich, Wallace D. Wattles reminds us “You are to become a creator, not a competitor. You are going to get what you want but in such a way that when you get it, every other man will have more than he has now.” He also adds In Search of Excellence “Give every person more in use value than you take from him in cash value. Then you are adding to the life of the world with every business transaction.”  

 

 Napolean’s Hill classic Think and Grow Rich book has changed my life. It has brought me success while explaining how and why. It is a required read for clients of Motiv8d Life Coaching.  Why? The reason is simple. The author Napolean Hill committed over 20 years of his life to the studying and understanding of hundreds of wealthy and successful people. The way his findings are communicated and the stories told are done so in a way that others can learn from it. The understanding of this information can’t be simply told to someone else – they must discover it themselves. It is not a one time read - it is a process of understanding the step by step application of the exercises and practices involved towards achievement and riches.  

 

When most people hear the word riches, they immediately think of money. One of the first principles understood in Think and Grow Rich, is that money ranks last in riches and having a positive mental attitude tops the list.

Books written today now add proven science to the personal growth industry. In one of Daniel Coyle’s recent books called “Talent Code – Greatest Isn’t Born, It’s Grown. Here’s How. ” he discusses his findings on talent and ability with Coaches, Researchers and Teachers.  His brain science shows the discovery of myelin and the role it plays in how the brain processes signals. To simplify, myelin is the white brain matter than is interwoven around the neurons. We know that neurons that fire together, wire together. In other words, the more you do something, the better you get at it no matter if it’s positive or negative. Myelin is an insulator that allows neurons to fire more efficiently with better timing, allowing signals to be sent either faster or slower, depending on what’s needed. And myelin is grown through focused effort.  This book helps prove further how habits are formed scientifically in your mind, and further enforced with continued use in everyday life. If you wish to succeed, you must change the paradigms and thus the habits associated with them for the results you want.  

 

“Power Up Your Brain” – The Neuroscience of Enlightenment is written by doctors David Perlmutter and Alberto Villoldo. Through experience and research, they bring together spirituality with science to achieve enlightenment. They explain how Neuro networks and how the habits of the mind are affected by stress and daily lifestyle. The mitochondria plays a larger role in the overall health of our bodies than originally thought. The importance of meditation, nutrition (broccoli, blueberries, turmeric, walnuts, and avocadoes) and exercise which helps awaken the power of your higher brain. They explore Nero Genesis, which is the growth of new brain neurons. To simplify, Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor or BDNF is a protein which plays a key role in creating new neurons. Higher levels of BDNF offer countless health benefits and lower levels are connected to diseases. One of the facts that jumps out in this book is the average American now eats and drinks 160 lbs. of refined sugar each year.  Elevated sugar levels, along with obesity, and increased appetite lower BDNF and reduce memory function.  BDNF is also affected by how often the brain is challenged. Intellectual stimulation levels are low in individuals who spend several hours watching television, playing computer games or other mindless activities.  

 

Dr. Andrew Newberg discusses several topics on brain structure and pre-frontal cortex in his book “How God Changes Your Brain.” He has shown that meditation and other spiritual practises enhance the functionality and capability of our circuitry thus improving the health of body. That emotion and fear determine and dominate behaviour. “Anger interrupts the functioning of your frontal lobes. Not only do you lose the ability to be rational, you lose the awareness that you’re acting in an irrational way. When your frontal lobes shut down, it’s impossible to listen to the other person, let alone feel empathy or compassion.” It was once thought that only a few humans can achieve enlightenment but we learn that every human has the equipment needed to turn your attention away from the everyday world and look inward.

 

So what does this mean for you and your life? It means that we can take the knowledge of the proven principles of the past and combine them with the science of today to do more, be more and have more in our everyday lives. We are not aware of our potential of our mind and bodies. Others have changed the thoughts in their mind and so can you. More than ever, it is possible!

Ryan's Recent Book Review for Winnipeg Life-Coaching

I recently had the pleasure of viewing a screening for The Happy Movie. A new documentary which studies people from around the world and specifically what makes them happy. This ties right into Life Coaching and your way of living. For some it was money and fame and for others it was the feeling of being appreciated.  They went to Japan and explained the effect of Karoshi which is a term that translates into “death from overwork”. It also went to an island just off the coast of Japan called Okinawa which has the highest rate of 100 year olds living per capita. They showed the difference in attitudes and environment. A family in India who by western means, didn’t have much in material goods are living without a car, electronics and a house but were very happy people. There were also a group in south Texas where people simply lived off the land but enjoyed every bit of life including lots of lobsters!

 

 In life coaching, we know that our life results come from the thoughts in our mind. If you leave your mind wide open, other people’s ideas will come into our mind and take you to their destination. People from all different parts of the world are obsessed with obtaining and achieving Money, Image and Status. But we know from our human nature that as soon as we get something, we get used to it and simply want more. It’s a constant cycle. These are our external motivators which do not make us happy. They might distract us, allow us to have something to strive for and might be great goals to have, but people that have these are not automatically happy and if they do, it doesn’t last long.  These are Extrinsic factors, and are typically associated with people that are disconnected, and depressed. True happiness is associated with the Intrinsic factors, which include community, feeling of appreciation and personal growth (looking within). The people that have these commonly also are close to family and friends and have support. You must determine where you are, before you can determine where you are going.

 

So how did they know who was happy? They discussed the science behind what makes people happy and made some interesting observations. If scientists can measure the level of depression in someone, why can’t they measure the level of happiness?  Well, they can through monitoring similar characteristics in the body and brain. They measure by levels of dopamine produced, combined with the ability to monitor and record brain activity in areas connected to happiness, including the Pre-Frontal Contex. Using meditation experts we can measure this brain activity. This ties in directly to visualization, what you're thinking, and programing your mind to where you  want to go in life.

 

The feelings of joy, happiness, guilt, depression, etc are not something new. It’s always refreshing to see this science confirming what has been know for years and written about in countless books and articles on the subject.  It reminded me of one of the first documentaries I saw over 10 years ago on the subject called “What the Bleep Do We Know.” It was the first of it’s kind to hit main stream media that scientifically proved the power of your thoughts through Quantum Physics. Neurons that wire together, fire together. The more often you do something, the more you attract it. This movie confirmed that again. That if you are great at getting mad and complaining about life, your job, situations, other people, you are really practising being good at being angry, jealous, depressed, etc. Your neurons associated to events of the past will start to automatically trigger these feelings as more of them are experienced. Thus, it will happen more often. So, what are you good at feeling and what do you want to feel more often?  A life coach can help you enjoy life in whatever situation it is. To focus on the feelings of joy, love, contentment, satisfaction, laughter, appreciation and have it show up more often. The people that didn’t have any stress and approached the world together are living longer and happier lives than everyone else.

 

At the end of the day isn’t simply being happy what everyone wants? Then take the time to look within, to be involved and make a difference in your community. To make the world a better place and be grateful for what you have now! You don’t have to go to extremes but if you want to be good at something you must practise it!  Start today and ask for help when you hit roadblocks. Everyone deserves to be happy and everything is already here that you need to make it happen.

The New Year is always an exciting time – a fresh start for everyone to set new goals and plans to achieve them. Just like in life, the same is true in life coaching as we must first determine where we came from and where we are before we can begin to set a new course. It’s very difficult to give someone directions to a place when you don’t know where they are starting from.

 

2011 was a great year filled with learning, laughter, travel, success and gratitude. Motiv8 helped enrich the lives of more people than ever before. These individuals were looking for more out of life and with help, support and guidance; they got to their next level. They changed their own mental mindset, conquered roadblocks and turned thoughts to concrete results in their lives.

 

Monthly volunteering at Siloam Mission, raising money for Shoes for Kids and assisting with Sam’s Christmas made 2011 an amazing year. For Sam’s Christmas, Motiv8 was proud to volunteer time and energy with Jeff Fisher and the Project Echo team, a charitable organization whose mission is simply to make our city of Winnipeg a greater place for all. This project showed the power a group of people can have and the significant difference they can make in the lives of many. Along with hundreds of volunteers, sponsors and the great people of this city, Sam’s Christmas put together over 100 hampers filled with food, household items, a computer, winter clothing, which helped 180 families and over 375 people experience a better Christmas during difficult times and hardships. I personally delivered several hampers myself and the feeling of truly helping someone who needed it more than I did, with no expectations in return, was a feeling I couldn’t buy with all the money in the world. And I will never forget it. We’ve all been knocked down in life at least one time or another and everyone deserves to be living a fulfilled and happy life. In 2012, Motiv8 will continue to help others as many ways as possible.

 

2012 is upon us and I challenge you to ask yourself where are you headed? Do you have a plan or are you following someone else’s plan? Do you have goals and do you believe in them? Are you following your passion? Do you take action towards it but secretly expect different results? Before you even start, you must expect great things for yourself. Everyone deserves to live in abundance and experience all the beautiful joys of life. The only limitations we have in life are the ones we put on ourselves. We must first look around at the current results in our life and take responsibility for them – our relationships, our financial situations, our physical and mental bodies. Only then, can we determine to move forward in a new direction expecting new results.

 

The Miracle of Thought” is a magnificent book written by Orison Swett Marden who reminds us that wealth is created mentally first. “One of the great secrets of life is to learn how to transfer the full current of divine force to ourselves and how to use this force efficiently. If man can find this law of divine transference, he will multiply his efficiency a millionfold, because he will then be a co-operator, co-operator with divinity, on a scale of which he has never before dreamed.“ Your past has no bearing on your future, unless you let it, soo expect prosperity, expect abundance, and expect joy and things to work out for you, and they will. It’s more than just setting New Year’s goals.

 

 You need to build a new self-image, a new program, the best version of yourself that deep down you always knew was possible and have someone guide you along the way. We are constantly told every day of what we can’t do, don’t have or can’t become. Not every day we are told of our infinite possibilities that we ALL have inside us. Friends and family care about us and support us, but they have their own goals and challenges to spend energy on. For example, when we’re learning a new skill, a new language or training for a boxing match, we don’t seek them as our teacher, guide or coach – we want an expert. A life coach can be that support in your corner, be that voice in your mind encouraging you to do it when everyone else says don`t and be someone to help you plan the next chapter of your exciting 2012 life.  What would you give to make your life the way you always imagined? You can`t put a price on it, so take action now before another year passes by.

Life Coaching is about not being afraid to ask the big questions. This roads to leads to self discovery. Whether you’re in Winnipeg or around the world, when we start asking what makes people fulfilled, it’s not what you would first think. Despite our western lifestyle of wanting more money, material goods, recognition, etc - at the end of the day it’s the feeling of giving back that really hits home. Whether it’s time or money for a good cause or person, it’s that feeling that makes us feel appreciated, needed and wanted. Don’t get me wrong, survival comes first. Not having to worry where to live or what to eat is the first challenge. Ask someone who has lived 80 or 90 years what they have learned along their journey. The majority of them would have taken more risks and done more for others. A great motivational quote reminds us that people forget what you had or what you did, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel.

 

Life Coaching is about helping others do more, be more and have more. Giving back is one of the universal laws that comes into play. The more you enrich the lives of others, the more your life will be enriched. But we must act first. As a Winnipeg Life Coach, I have made a point of giving back and being involved more in my community. Moving forward in 2011, I am committed to these local and international causes.

 

I’m running a marathon in Rome, Italy with Team Diabetes in March, 2011 to raise money for this important cause. I’m blessed with my physical abilities to run and helps remind me how grateful I am. For day to day events, Motiv8 has teamed up with Project Echo along with Elite Performance and several other companies to give back. Project Echo’s goal is to raise over $200,000 dollars per year for ongoing projects both locally and internationally.

 

Siloam Mission is a shelter here in Winnipeg for people who live on the street looking to better themselves and get back into society. Project Echo volunteers have donated time, clothing and other essential necessities. “Sam’s Christmas” raised money, food, clothing and supplies for 20 families not only giving them a Christmas but bettering them into the New Year. "Winnipeg Projects" goal is to fight poverty and aid disadvantaged children in Namibia, Africa. Through the SOS Children’s Villages Canada, our aim is to sponsor  that will house up to 10 orphaned and abandoned children, providing them with all the commodities necessary to a healthy life and optimistic future. The cost to build a home which will supply food, education, medical care, recreation and an SOS Mother is $25,000/year for 3 years.

Almost all of your life is controlled by your subconscious mind. It's working 24/7 whether we realize it or not. It monitors our organs, our breathing, heart rate. It's in the background but over time and experience, it plays a vital role in how we mentally interpret our lives and the outcomes moving forward. We are habitual beings and addicted to the feelings we have on a daily basis. Our eyes project an event, we experience them through a chemical reaction occurring and a feeling that is felt which connects to the experience. On a cellular level, the more we do something, the more often we do it. The more often we do it, the better we become at it. Neurons that fire together, wire together.  One of the major roles of an effective life coach is to understand the subconscious mind and how to change it to get the results you want.

 

In Dr. Joe Dispenza's second book titled, "Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself" we are reminded of the science of subconscious programming that happens to us growing up.  When we think and feel in the same way, we memorize these states of being and this internal chemical state. Over years, this becomes second nature and the genes actually wear out. Cells reproduce and their receptors for certain protein and emotions can decrease. Thus chemically our bodies are changing to what we think and act. We can break free from this and develop a new path and a new way of thinking though coaching, self reflection, and autosuggestion. We continue to see more scientific evidence of the power of ourselves and the infinite possibilities that each of us posses.  You have infinite riches. The immortal and mortal within you. You don’t need a piece of paper, you need a mirror to understand what is happening. To gain them, all you have to do is open your mental eyes and behold the treasure house of Infinity within you. There is a storehouse with you from which you can extract everything you need to live life gloriously, joyously and abundantly. Many people are closed off to their own potential because they do not know about this storehouse of Infinite Intelligence and boundless love within themselves. Whatever you want, you can draw it forth.”

 

How does this relate to your life and your goals?  We know that every day our thoughts and feelings perpetuate the same state of being. It creates the same behaviors, which creates the same reality. Habits and patterns form. In order to change results on the outside, we must change our internal environment on the inside. Our mind thinks in pictures, so what images do you choose to think about? In life coaching, we talk about there being a greater power around us, something that can not be experienced with any of our five senses. It has to be felt and experienced. How do we access this power to create opportunities we want?  

 

“Quantum creating only works when thoughts and feelings are aligned. Quantum field responds not to what we want, it responds to who we are being.”

 

“Only when subjects holed both heightened emotions and clear objectives in ALIGNMENT were they able to produce the intended effect.”

 

So in other words, only not only must we know what we want and be clear about it, but we must feel and be aligned to get the desired result. One of the toughest things to do is act, behave and feel like the person you want to become before you have become it or before you have gotten your goal. Our old subconscious programming pulls us back and fights us. Ask yourself this, if I obtain this goal and get this desired result - how will I feel? How will I act myself and how will I view the world? How will others view and act to me and how will I treat them? Your subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between past, present and future. Learn to be aware of your negative thoughts, focus ahead  - as the past has not effect on the future and with persistence and time you will reach your goal.
